Kuessipan - Festival de cinéma de la ville de Québec
Two girls grow up as best friends in an Innu community. While Mikuan has a loving family, Shaniss is picking up the pieces of her shattered childhood. As they’re about to turn 17, their friendship is shaken when Mikuan falls for a white boy, and starts dreaming of leaving the reserve that’s now too small for her dreams.

Myriam Verreault
A director, screenwriter, and editor, Myriam Verreault made a name for herself with West of Pluto (2009), her first feature-length fiction film, which was selected for more than 50 film festivals around the world. She moves with ease between fiction film, documentary, and interactive works. In collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada’s digital department, she created Ma tribu c’est ma vie, an immersive work that brought her into contact with the realities of young people in Mani-Utenam. She then undertook the film adaptation of Naomi Fontaine’s novel Kuessipan, which she directed in 2019. The film received numerous awards and honors at international festivals, including the Best Canadian Film award twice. These two feature films are now considered landmark works of Quebec cinema from the last quarter-century.For television, she directed 48 episodes of the popular series 5e rang (ICI Radio-Canada), as well as the series Sorcières, which aired on TVA. She has just finished filming Le gouffre lumineux.
At the same time, she is developing adaptations of two literary works for the big screen. Her short film UWD, co-directed with multidisciplinary artist Brigitte Poupart, is currently making the rounds at international film festivals.
