Quebec–Quebec Night shines a spotlight on local talent with a program entirely dedicated to short films directed by filmmakers who are from and/or based in Quebec City.
A true showcase of the city's creative spirit, this selection celebrates the richness, boldness, and diversity of perspectives that shape our cinema. It’s a unique opportunity to discover, meet, and celebrate the vibrant Quebec City filmmaking community.
This program is eligible for both the Audience Award for Best Short Film and the Best Quebec Short Film Award. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Sunday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. in the Salle Multi at Méduse.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers featured in the program.

Two women meet at a bus stop in Morocco, on an almost deserted highway. One is veiled, the other is not. They are smitten at first sight and judge each other. Time passes by, the bus doesn't arrive. Alone and desperate in the middle of nowhere, they gradually open up and show their vulnerabilities. Between friction and mutual support, Sara and Fatima drop their masks to reveal their inner struggles and unite in the face of the aggression hanging over them.

It highlights the rapid growth of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) and shows how the league is inspiring girls and women to continue playing, or to take up, the sport for the first time.

Adèle Michaud is a graduate of the Cinema and Creation program at Cégep de Sainte-Foy. A dedicated artist and accomplished athlete, she has played basketball for the past seven years. Along the way, she discovered a creative side that contrasts with her naturally organized and structured personality. Determined to build a career in film, Adèle plans to pursue university studies in cinema and earn a degree in film studies. Her ultimate goal is to make a living in the film industry as a director.

Shot on 16mm film, this experimental work is a series of studies on the relationships between rocky and aqueous materials along the shores of the Saint Lawrence River. A presence weaves through the multiple textures, punctuating these organic micro-atmospheres. Through our porosity to the environment, we embrace an intuitive and sensory dialogue with these subjects, giving free rein to our human subjectivity.

As a contemporary dance performer, creator and performer, Nelly enjoys exploring the spectrum of collective creation with versatile artists from a variety of disciplines. So it's only natural that she should collaborate with Quebec's film, theatre, music and performance communities.Through creation, Nelly seeks to tickle the limits of self-transcendence, risk-taking and the raw energy of the body in order to build powerful images. Strongly influenced by cinema and photography, she generally uses a variety of materials to draw the imagination into a universe that is both poetic and strange. Driven by an insatiable thirst for learning and sharing, Nelly sees creation as a political, stimulating and unifying space.

David B. Ricard
David B. Ricard, an interdisciplinary artist based in Quebec City and a PhD candidate at Université Laval, works with video, theater, dance, cinema, sound art, and performance. His research focuses on intuitive, introspective, and relational creations. He develops improvisation and interaction tools that encourage spontaneous creation and inter- or multidisciplinary exchanges. His ecosophical inclinations lead him to prioritize repurposing, reusing, and revaluing tools considered obsolete. He designs collective and alternative creation methods based on processes that deconstruct hierarchical approaches to languages and roles on stage. Philosophical and emotional reflections, along with an experimental approach to narrative, drive him to create fragmented works rooted in principles of plural dramaturgies.

Through sensory fragments, this film delves into the invisible pain of a rare disease that erodes the spinal cord and isolates those who suffer from it. Separated by an ocean, three women intertwine their voices to share their experience with syringomyelia. Blending intimate narratives and raw physical sensations, this experimental documentary immerses us in the impact of neuropathic pain on the body and the way it shapes one’s perception of the world.

Alix Galdin is a Franco-Canadian artist whose work explores the artisanal possibilities of the photo-chemical medium, through both still and moving images. Her films, distributed by Spira and the Groupe Intervention Vidéo (GIV), have been featured in international festivals such as Rencontres Internationales Traverse (Toulouse, France), Cinema on the Bayou (Lafayette, United States), Rendez-Vous Québec Cinéma (Montréal, Canada), Instants Vidéo (Marseille, France), and Kinoskop (Belgrade, Serbia). Her photographs have been exhibited in duo with artist Sarah Seené, notably at Maison Photo Montréal (2019), and in group exhibitions across North America and Europe (including Corridor Elephant, Expolaroid, and Analog Forever Magazine). She has received several grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and has been mentored by professionals such as Guillaume Vallée (Vidéographe), Félix Lamarche (Table de concertation interrégionale en cinéma), and more recently by Nadine Beaudet during the documentary eco-creation lab program from Spira, where she created Syrinx.

One is consumed by exhaustion, the other by anger. Through their respective solitude, Monochrome explores the invisible tensions, buried wounds and unexpected reflections that the city can reveal. A psychological thriller about the fear of the other and the mirages of the self.
Justice Rutikara
Born in Kigali and raised in Quebec City, Justice Rutikara developed a passion for storytelling, visual arts and performance at an early age. Actor turned writerdirector, he is committed to promoting a fairer and richer representation of AfroQuebec and Rwandan identities in the film and television industry. As a filmmaker, his short and medium-length fiction and documentary films have been broadcast on several public platforms and have won numerous awards, including a nomination for Best Director of the Year at the Gala Dynastie 2020 and the Prix Gémeaux de la relève in 2021. "Ibuka, Justice" marks his first animated film, adding a new dimension to his committed and innovative work.
