This screening is co-presented by the Cinémania Festival

It's 1985. Vincent, almost 13, lives in the suburbs of Paris with his middle-class family, caught between an older brother who brushes him off and parents who never stop arguing. No longer a kid but not yet an adult, Vincent fumbles through life's big questions: identity, friendship, family, first crushes... and why adults never seem to have figured things out either.

Olivier Nakache

When he broke into the film industry in 1995, Olivier Nakache did so alongside Eric Toledano, a childhood friend, with whom he wrote and directed the short film Le Jour et la nuit. But it was with another short film, Les Petits souliers, that the duo made a name for themselves: featuring a fine cast of then-little-known actors (Gad Elmaleh, Atmen Kélif, Jamel Debbouze, and Roschdy Zem), the film was selected for the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, then for the Paris Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award in 1999.
Having both worked as counselors at summer camps, the two friends continued their collaboration, once again drawing inspiration from their own experiences to create the short film Ces Jours heureux. This short film laid the groundwork for what would become Nos jours heureux, their second feature film.
As with the short film, Olivier Nakache teamed up with Eric Toledano to make his feature film debut, co-directing Je préfère qu’on reste amis... (Let’s Stay Friends...). With Tellement proches, Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano humorously tackle the theme of family, drawing on their respective experiences. Now inseparable, the two friends went on to direct Intouchables, their fourth feature film, starring Omar Sy and François Cluzet.
In 2014, Olivier Nakache reunited with Eric Toledano and Omar Sy for Samba, a comedy adapted from a novel in which the actor plays an undocumented immigrant. The film was another success, drawing more than three million theatergoers, as was Le Sens de la fête, which was released three years later. This comedy-drama, featuring Jean-Pierre Bacri as a seasoned and endearing wedding planner, was also critically acclaimed.
In 2019, the duo directed Hors normes, starring Vincent Cassel and Reda Kateb in the lead roles. Toledano and Nakache then ventured into television for the first time with En Thérapie for Arte. Adapted from the Israeli series Be’Tipul, the show follows a psychoanalyst’s sessions with several of his patients. Praised by critics and audiences alike, En Thérapie concluded in 2022 after two seasons. The following year, the two directors returned to the big screen with Une année difficile, starring Pio Marmaï, Jonathan Cohen, and Noémie Merlant.
