Presented across four programs and dedicated to showcasing emerging talent from Quebec and around the world, the Short Film Competition offers a window onto the world for anyone who loves bold, impactful storytelling.
The Plein(s) Écran(s) Audience Award for Best Short Film will be presented to one of the 33 Quebec and international films in the Official Competition, as selected by audience vote. The jury will also present the Spira and Paraloeil Award for Best Quebec Short Film.
The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. in the Salle Multi at Méduse.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers featured in the program.

Every day, Joëlle meets her retired friends on Bain des Dames’s beach in Marseille. Like in an open-air theater, they laugh, talk about love, sex, aging bodies, and remake the world with the freedom of those who have nothing left to prove.

Originally from Marseille, Margaux Fournier draws on her Mediterranean roots to shape her creative vision. After studying at Sciences Po Lille and La Fémis, she set out to make her first short, If You Don’t Like It, Look Away. Shot in her hometown, the film offers an intimate dive into the world of a group of seventy-year-olds from Marseille.

Maya, a 40-year-old trans woman, returns to her hometown after years away to visit her ailing mother. As the village searches for the missing Virgin, a walk between mother and daughter opens the possibility of an intimate encounter, suspended between memory and the sacred.

Carla Scolari (Rosario, 1991) graduated from the Provincial School of Film and Television of Rosario (2012). She worked in photojournalism and as an assistant director on short films and LGBTIQ+ web series. She co-directed Delinquido (Audience Award, Rosario Latin American Film Festival 2017) and directed La Mutuante, which received several national awards, including at the Cipolletti Independent Film Festival and the Leonardo Favio National Film Festival (2022).In 2019, she worked as director of photography on the documentary Hijas del Maíz. Her third short film, Todos los nombres empiezan con M, was selected at Ventana Sur Cortos 2025 and will have its world premiere at Festival Regard (Quebec, 2026).
She is currently developing her first fiction feature, Cómo se nombra una tormenta, selected for +MALA 2025 and winner of the Espacio Santafesino Development Grant 2025. A lesbian filmmaker, her work focuses on gender perspectives and human rights.

Lovisa Sirén (b. 1986) is a screenwriter, director, and editor. She made her feature debut with Maya Nilo (Laura), nominated for Guldbagge Awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actress. Her short films — including Pussy Have the Power, Audition, and Baby — have screened at festivals such as Sundance and Locarno, winning multiple awards. Sirén’s work often explores relationships, power dynamics, and complex female characters — always with a touch of humor.

Barbara Synak is a Warsaw-based animator and illustrator whose work blends graphic design,movement and psychology to create deeply introspective visual stories. Having graduated from the
Academy of Fine Arts in 2025 and currently studying psychology, she believes that animation is a
medium that can uniquely visualise the unspeakable, such as the flow of thoughts and feelings, and
the often-intangible textures of perception. Her short animation won the main prize in the Chaumont
Biennale student competition in 2023.
