Rose G. Lévesque, an almost nonagenarian painter and poet, painted the story of her life on her house's walls to transform it into a museum.

In the mid-2000s, Joël Girard, a charismatic and endearing soldier, is on the cusp of his first deployment to Afghanistan. His wife Michelle and his son Jacob must learn to live with this new reality: this time, the mission is a risky one. With the stated aim of bonding with Jacob, Joël becomes the coach of his son’s football team, the Phénix. Despite his efforts, a rift widens between him and his son. PHÉNIX is an autobiographical work that plunges us headfirst into the reality of military families. Through an intimate drama, the director invites us to revisit a turbulent period in Canadian history.
The screening will be presented by Saloua Ouahi (Cégep Garneau), a voting member of the Prix Collégial du Cinéma Québécois and guest programmer at FCVQ 2026, and by Phéniix’s sound designer, Samuel Gagnon-Thibodeau

Jonathan Beaulieu-Cyr
Jonathan Beaulieu-Cyr grew up in the military neighborhoods of Quebec City. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University. As a producer, screenwriter, and director, his films have won several awards and nominations. His latest film, titled Phénix, recounts his experiences as the son of a Canadian soldier.
